Who am I?
Nance has been an ecological systems designer, landscaper, and horticulturist for thirty-five years. She stewards fifty acres of land in the Driftless Region of northwest Illinois, where she cultivates and forages medicinal and edible plants and fungi, keeps bees and a fruit orchard, raises ducks and quail, and grows for indigenous seed banks. A consultant, speaker, and teacher, she is internationally respected for her work on land politics and soil health.
Her publications include Land.Place.Belonging., The Soil Keepers: Interviews with Practitioners on the Soil Beneath our Feet, and Ground Truthing Volume 1: Hidden Geographies: Chicago, and she has produced art works for exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago, Ballroom Marfa, and the Sky High Farm Biennial.
